Stretford Borough Band, Whit Monday 1950
The band were booked by a local church in Millbrook, Staleybridge.
We led the church thought the village and surrounding farms. After lunch in a mill canteen we played in a local field where the church has organised a sports day
Jack our Eb bass spent a considerable time in the Church Inn and was very happy on the way home.
Jack lived in BroadHeath and when we arrived back at Stretford he decided to walk home along the canal bank.
This was a bad move and he finished up in the canal, however he clambered out and continued on his way.
After a little while he realised he was now on the wrong side of the canal. He solved this problem by jumping back in and returning to the correct side!
On reaching home his wife removed his green uniform and found that he now had a green shirt. On removing his shirt she found that she had a green Jack, I understand that she gave him a hard time in the tin bath.
