I spent my musical life playing sensible instruments with keyboards but bought a trumpet at the age of 50. 

I did very little with it for some years until told to get serious or sell it. Logically, the only thing to do was to join the band on Bb Bass and sell the trumpet, so I did. A year on bass proved too much like hard work and a year on baritone showed that I was too slow - Where else could I go but the Trombone Section.
