I started playing the tenor trombone at secondary school and joined the school orchestra and wind band. I realised quickly that there weren't many interesting parts to play and decided to look for something more challenging.

I joined Stretford Old Band in 1988 then moved to Gorton Silver Band where I stayed until having my first son in 1994. I somehow couldn't find time to get to rehearsals after that and gave up playing for 12 years until my second son Sam became interested in playing.

We both decided we'd like to join Sale's training band in November 2007 where I wanted to try something new, so had a go on a spare Euphonium.

 I was hooked again, I joined the main band in Summer 2008 and haven't been able to tear myself away since!
