My father played the tenor trombone and when I was 7 years of age he taught me how to play. I started to play the bass trombone in my early 20s.
I've been married to Margaret for 43 years and we have 2 daughters Carol and Sarah both of whom are married, and I have 3 grandchildren, Joshua, Hannah and Phoebe. We live in Sale where I work for the Salvation Army Church.
Highlights of my banding have been with the Salvation Army and I have played in many cities and venues including The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena, MEN Arena, Royal Northern College of Music and the Bridgewater Hall. I have also appeared on the television and have had the pleasure of touring Holland, France and USA with the Salvation Army Band.
My banding outside of the Salvation Army has always been limited because of my commitments to my church. I joined Oldham Lees band in 2006 for a period of 6 months whilst their bass trombone player took a sabbatical.
I joined Sale Band in 2007. I enjoy playing under the leadership of John Dickinson and believe under his leadership the band has really developed musically. I look forward to the new season and our continued success.
