Fri, 03 Sep 2010 Members of the band presented £1500 to this year's chosen charity As members of the band gathered at Barton Aerodrome, the helicopter based there was out on call but it returned in spectacular style before stopping for refueling. Just as the band were about to go down for photos with the crew, it was called out again, showing that it is a very much needed facility. John Clark ( 2nd horn) was at the presentation, as last year his life was saved by air ambulance following a road traffic accident. Photos and interviews with the press were done as the cheque was presented to Julie Norman, North West Air Ambulance Fund Raising Manager

Tue, 22 Jun 2010 The band were awarded 3 trophies on Sunday... An early start, then the traditional rehearsal upstairs at the Red Dragon pub. Then for the third year running, another tradition Soo pulling out last place at the draw, which gave time to enjoy the sunshine, catch up with friends from other bands ,hear some of the contest and ready ourselves to play. After our expert and rigorous drilling from Pam, the march down playing Sandhurst, went seemlessly, with Rick on the drum, everyone confidently in step, John taking Simon's place on Solo Cornet, while Simon led the parade with some magnificent mace twirling and throwing. The band were greeted by enthusiastic applause from the audience as they turned into the square and came to a perfect halt. On the stage the band played The Cossack, The Hymn Aberystwyth and then Phillip Sparke's Saint Saens variations. The wrestling with the music in the breeze was much reduced this year thanks to Peter's hard work on the folders. The extra piece, Hey Jude at the end, was very well received by the crowd who were swaying in time and singing along to give a real feel good atmosphere. After the massed bands, Sale were delighted to be awarded the Deportment prize ( for the first time ever), Pam deservedly collecting the trophy for the band, then in addition, after a little confusion, the Best Hymn trophy and finally the 2nd place trophy. The band retired to the Red Dragon to celebrate a great day out. Thanks to everyone for a great team effort .

Fri, 11 Jun 2010 A Sunny and Dry Whit Friday The band took part in the Tameside Contest, competing at 6 venues to get an overall ranking, playing Sandhurst on the march down and The Cossack on the stand. It was an excellent night out, after the dreadful weather last year, everyone enjoyed the atmosphere - and the fish & chips at Broadoak. John Dickinson has to be the smartest person ever to grace the chippy, resplendant in a white tuxedo ! Special thanks to Pam for the intensive marching training and for all who helped make the evening a great success. Well done to Sam competing on his first Whit Friday. The band were delighted to be awarded second prize in their section at Droylsden.

Sun, 23 May 2010 John Dickinson initiates first Training Band Contest The training band recently competed in a slow melody contest to help them gain confidence in their lead up to gaining music grades. The players chose their own music and after much practice performed in front of the judges: John Dickinson (MD) and Peter Corbishley (Training Band Co-Ordinator) and the Training Band Members. All participants were obviously nervous but all played well. There was a first prize of a Music Case plus a £20 music voucher plus two runners up prizes of music cases. No one was left out as there were chocolates all round afterwards ( to console or celebrate) this being the most popular part of the contest!! The event was a great success and is planned again
